During his travels, painter and collector Nicolae Grigorescu , known for his keen eye and affinity for rare pieces, discovered half of a special tapestry at a merchant in Paris .
The elderly merchant told him that the tapestry had once been a complete work, but had been cut in two.
The fate of the other half remained a mystery....
Intrigued by the beauty of the handmade details, Grigorescu decided to buy the piece, even though its story was incomplete.
With the precious half housed in his collection, Grigorescu began a long and arduous search.
He showed extraordinary dedication to finding the other piece of the puzzle. Although there were years when there seemed to be no clue, hope never left him.
Nine years later, on a trip to Rome , Nicolae Grigorescu had a providential encounter.
In a small antique shop, among old and dusty objects, his eye was drawn to a fragment of tapestry.
Upon closer examination, he realized that he had before his eyes the other half of the Paris tapestry!
With an emotion that is difficult to describe, Grigorescu negotiated the purchase of the piece, thus reuniting two pieces of history after almost a century of separation.
Today, this complete tapestry is on display for the public, offering visitors to the Nicolae Grigorescu Museum in Câmpina the opportunity to admire the beauty of a unique work of art and reflect on a story that demonstrates that perseverance and love for art can work wonders.
Every thread of gold and silver sewn into this upholstery carries not only the craftsmanship of its creators, but also the story of a miraculous find!
